Getting Ready

There are four essential steps involved in getting ready to buy your first home.

Have your Credit in Order
Pay all your bills on time. Pay down large outstanding balances. Know your CREDIT score and resolve any credit issues. For a free annual credit report go to or call 1-877-322-8228.

Your ability to save shows readiness to be a home owner. It is never too soon to start saving for down payment and closing costs. Banking your tax return is a wonderful way to give a boost to your downpayment savings account. Savings programs called IDAs (with matches for each dollar saved) are available locally.
